PE Note to Daily DeviationHello all,In this section of Daily Deviations (DD) PE week I wanted to write about how your suggestions are processed and then turned into DDs, but with a bit more of a focus on the process of how we Community Volunteers (CVs) utilize the note system. I felt it was a place where some common problems arise which may not be talked about all too often resulting in confusion and frustration for both suggesters and CVs. The Note SystemI think many are aware of this but just for the sake of being clear, CVs use the same exact note system as every other user on the site. We do not have any special bells and whistles to organize our notes other than the same tools you all are also given. There is no special tool or program that sorts or does anything special with our DD suggestions for us, it is entirely up to us, how we choose to sort them in our note system. Let's take a closer look at how the process works, shall we? :bul
PE: Know what your CVs can DDDuring my term as a Community Volunteer who accepts Daily Deviation suggestions it has become very clear that some people simply aren't sure who to suggest a given piece to for a DD. While the majority of suggesters have a pretty good grasp on which CVs to send the suggestion to, there are enough suggestions being received which would be better sent to a different CV to warrant some education on the subject. Each DD selecting CV is assigned a gallerySome people believe that anyone with an ^ symbol in front of their username can give out DDs and often there is no knowledge that we as CVs look over specific galleries which are the galleries we are allowed to select DDs from. When looking over :faq18: you will notice the different galleries followed by one or more CVs who watch over those specific galleries. To be very simplistic, if the piece you wish to suggest is in the Anthro gallery you'd then suggest it to ^KovoWolf who watches ov
Introducing #Arts-and-Health: interviewHello deviants! Welcome to Introducing interview about #Arts-and-Health with its Founder, ^SanguineVamp! #Q1: Hi Jade! First, thank you so much for participating! Second, tell us a bit about yourself!^SanguineVamp: Hi! Thanks for having me. I am the CV for Photomanipulation here on deviantART, and I've been photomanipulating for about 10 years as time allows. In real life I am about halfway through with a Ph.D., and I live with a golden retriever. I enjoy things that are brightly colored, unique, and really well-done. I'm pretty outgoing and like meeting new people, and generally I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm for getting things done.#Q2: What do you aim to do in the deviantart community? ^SanguineVamp: I want to see more collaboration, and I want to see people reaching outside of their comfort levels and pushing themselves to learn more about their art form. I think it's too easy to become complacent aroun
Fix that miscat! ~ Artisan Crafts V. Still Life Fix that miscat! is the first of a series of articles which aims to help you distinguish between galleries that are commonly confused or abused in the category system here on deviantART. Submitting to the correct categories here can make a huge difference to exposure and feedback for your work as well as features within the Daily Deviations so we want to give you the best chances possible! Let's get started with Artisan Crafts Versus Still Life Photography! Artisan Crafts (Culinary) & Still Life Photography DeviantART is a hive of activity with work from all sorts of genres and areas being shared and submitted on a daily basis. So it's only natural that sometimes, confusion happens. And there are a few pesky categories that are difficult to define and differentiate between. We've recently found that Photography -> Still Life and Artisan Crafts are a great example of this.Still Li

PE: A Guide To Vexel Art WelcomeWelcome to Vexel Art week with Project Educate! I am ^TheLastHuzzah, your host for the week. Today I am introducing you to Vexel Art, and digging nice and deep to aid the understanding of this fantastic media. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have, so if anything confuses you or you’d like clarification, please don’t hesitate to comment! IntroductionVexel Art takes a great deal of time, patience and skill, contrary to public opinion. This misunderstanding has arisen because, sadly, it is often (incorrectly) said that vexel art is simply tracing a posterized photograph. While I do agree that this is a way that many people start off in the media, and a small number of people continue in it, vexelling is a form of drawing, in the same way as any other media. The vexel artist may sketch out an idea, and then work using the pen tool to digi
Community Voices: What is a Daily Deviation?DDs: The deviantART definitionSo, as the title says, What in the world IS a Daily Deviation (DD), anyway? You know what deviantART says about it, right? Under :faq61: it says:A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.That says nothing about a DD being a perfect specimen of art-- in fact, it doesn't even use the word "art" at all. Basically, as CVs, when we are giving a DD, we are doing so because we think the image is interesting and well-done and deserves your attention. It may be technically exquisite. It may be technically quite good but exceptionally thought-provoking. It may be exceedingly creative. It may be all of these things! Above all else, it should stand out in some way from others in that medium or gallery.

The 365 Photography Challenge - How to Stick at itBefore I start with this article, a little disclaimer. I just finished the 365 photography challenge - known as a 'photo a day' but I blogged and took more than one photo on most days, so it was that little bit more challenging. So I'm feeling pretty smug right now, that I achieved it. But I am by no means toting myself as an expert. This is just my humble advice on how to keep going when it does nothing but rain, or when you feel like giving up.Before 2012, some weeks would pass when I wouldn't even pick up the camera, let alone think about shots, or how to compose one. Photography still excited me, but I was lacking inspiration. So on the 2nd of January last year I decided to throw everything up in the air, and let go. That is to say, I stopped being precious about the camera (because you can't when you have to take a photo a day) and I forced myself to take rubbish shots, as well as half decent ones. Start as you mean to go. Don't over-set yoursel
